Unlocking the Potential of Beverage Innovation with BrellaPak

By George Coyne — February 1, 2025

The beverage industry is in the middle of a fundamental shift. Consumers are moving away from legacy categories and toward functional drinks, wellness-forward formulations, and brands with a clear point of view. The market opportunity for emerging beverage brands has never been larger — but neither have the operational challenges of actually getting a product to market.

At BrellaPak, we see this tension every day. Founders come to us with exceptional formulas, strong brand identities, and real consumer demand. What they lack is the production infrastructure to turn that vision into cases on pallets. That gap between product concept and shelf-ready execution is where BrellaPak lives.

The Innovation Landscape

The beverage categories showing the strongest growth share a common thread: they solve a specific problem for a specific consumer. Functional beverages — drinks formulated with adaptogens, nootropics, probiotics, or botanicals — are not a trend. They are a structural shift in how consumers think about what they drink. The same is true for hemp-derived beverages, low-dose THC seltzers, premium energy drinks, and better-for-you RTD cocktails.

For founders, this is good news. The market is rewarding innovation, differentiation, and authenticity. But it also means the bar for product quality is high. Consumers expect clean labels, consistent flavor profiles, stable formulations, and packaging that communicates premium quality. You cannot cut corners on production and expect to compete.

The challenge is that the production infrastructure for these innovative categories is not as accessible as it should be. Most large co-packers are optimized for high-volume runs of established products. Their minimums are too high for emerging brands. Their equipment is configured for commodity formats. Their teams are not set up to handle the formulation complexity of functional or hemp-derived products.

That is the gap BrellaPak was built to fill.

How BrellaPak Started

BrellaPak exists because we lived the problem before we solved it. Brella Beverage started as a beverage brand — we formulated and launched our own products before we ever co-packed for anyone else. That experience taught us exactly what emerging brands need from a production partner, because we needed the same things ourselves.

We learned that founders do not just need someone to fill bottles. They need a partner who understands formulation chemistry, who can source ingredients and packaging at reasonable volumes, who can handle the compliance requirements for complex categories like hemp, and who can warehouse and fulfill finished goods without requiring a separate logistics contract.

We built BrellaPak to be that partner. One facility, one team, one relationship — from formula to fulfilled order.

The Full-Service Model

Most co-packers are production-only operations. You bring them a finished formula, pre-sourced ingredients, and your own packaging, and they fill and seal. That model works if you have the experience and vendor relationships to manage the supply chain yourself. Most emerging brand founders do not.

BrellaPak operates differently. We offer four integrated services:

Co-Packing

Our production capability covers multiple container formats: droppers (15mL, 30mL, 60mL), shots (50mL, 60mL), and bottles (100mL, 250mL, 375mL, 750mL, and 1L). We work across beverage categories including functional wellness, hemp-derived, RTD cocktails, energy, and bev-alc. Our minimums are designed for emerging brands — low enough to run a test batch, scalable enough to support real growth.

Formulation and Product Development

If you have a concept but not a finished formula, our R&D team can help you get there. We handle formulation development, stability testing, flavor profiling, and pilot runs. For brands working with complex ingredients like cannabinoids, adaptogens, or probiotics, this is where the difference between a good product and a great product gets made.

Ingredient and Packaging Procurement

Sourcing is one of the most underestimated challenges for new brands. Finding reliable suppliers for specialty ingredients, negotiating pricing at emerging-brand volumes, and securing packaging components (bottles, closures, labels) with reasonable lead times — it adds up fast. BrellaPak handles procurement as part of our service, leveraging our vendor relationships to get better pricing and faster delivery than most founders can get on their own.

Warehousing and Fulfillment

After production, your finished goods need to go somewhere. We provide on-site warehousing, pick-and-pack fulfillment, and outbound logistics management. This means your product goes from our production line to our warehouse to your customer or distributor — without a separate 3PL contract, without extra handling, and without the inventory visibility gaps that come from splitting production and storage across multiple facilities.

Why It Matters

The beverage brands that win are the ones that get to market fast, iterate on their product, and scale without breaking their operations. Every handoff between vendors is a potential delay, a communication gap, and a quality risk. The full-service model eliminates those handoffs.

When your co-packer is also your formulation partner, your procurement team, and your warehouse, the feedback loops are tighter. If a stability test reveals an issue, the R&D team and the production team are in the same building. If a packaging supplier has a lead time problem, we know about it before it affects your production schedule. If you need to adjust your formula after a test batch, we can turn that around in days, not weeks.

This is not a theoretical advantage. It is the difference between launching on time and launching late. Between your first production run going smoothly and your first production run teaching you expensive lessons.

Getting Started

If you are building a beverage brand and the production side feels like the hardest part, it does not have to be. BrellaPak was built specifically for brands in your position — innovative products, emerging scale, and a need for a co-packing partner that does more than just fill bottles.

We work with brands at every stage, from first formulation through scaled production. The conversation starts with understanding your product, your category, and your goals.
